Great Eastern Highway upgrades delayed to 2019-20

17 Feb 2014 - Despite the Barnett Government promising $45 million to upgrade passing lanes on Great Eastern Hwy near Kalgoorlie by 2017, it has now being revealed that this project will not be completed until 2019/20. This will be 7 years after the promise was made and 2 years after the next state election. .
The decision by the Barnett Government to defer the project in the 2013/14 Mid-year Review will result in significant delays and means that the project will not be completed until 2019/20.
When making the commitment to upgrade the highway the Premier Colin Barnett made the following comments:
